Protests were held in several areas yesterday demanding the provision of fertilizer for paddy cultivation.
A protest jointly organized by the Galoya South Joint Farmers’ Association and the All Ceylon Agrarian Federation was held in Ekgaloya, Ampara. Farmers demanded that the government that came to power promising to provide free fertilizer but there is no fertilizer at all even to purchase with their own money.
The Mahaweli Farmers’ Rights Protection Organization had organized a protest in front of the Welikanna Agrarian Services Center. The members of the organization presented their problems to the heads of the Agrarian Services Center but the farmers did not receive a definite pledge to provide fertilizer.
Protests were organized by paddy farmers, vegetable farmers, and minor export crop farmers in several other areas.
