If necessary, the civic rights of Maithri, Ranil and the Yahapalana cabinet can be abolished – President (VIDEO)

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa says he can use his two-thirds majority in parliament to abolish the civic rights of former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the entire cabinet of a Yahapalana government.

“Who ruled this country at the time of the Easter Sunday attack? We had a strong security service then. We had a strong intelligence service then. That is why there were no incidents after the war. However, they came to power, destroyed the intelligence service, destroyed the war heroes, shattered their mentality and went to rule this country without giving any priority to the national security of this country. The incident that took place on Easter Sunday took place in a situation like that.

They appointed a Presidential Commission. The commission has clearly stated who the culprits are. They have clearly said that the President, the then Prime Minister and the Cabinet should be responsible for this. So we have submitted all those reports to Parliament. It has been given to the Attorney General. It has been handed over to the CID to investigate them and punish them accordingly.

But like the previous government, we will not interfere in political revenge. On the one hand, when we demand the independence of the judiciary, on the other hand, we cannot ask that someone should be punished. The judiciary will do that. I have faith in it. But if we want to do it quickly, we can bring an Act of Parliament (which has been done before) and abolish the rights of those responsible. If necessary, we can act in a way that will not allow any more such wrongs to be committed in this country. That is to say, we have the power of two thirds to do it. So if someone is asking for something from us they have to ask it a little more carefully. We are ready for that too. “

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said this addressing the opening ceremony of the new Kelani Bridge yesterday (24).
