Navy Spokesman referred to home-quarantine upon being recognised as contact to Covid patient

Navy Media Spokesman Captain Indika de Silva has been placed under home quarantine after being identified as an associate of a Covid patient, Navy sources said. This was after two officers attached to the Navy media unit tested positive for Covid 19 this week.

According to reliable sources, 23 officers at Naval Headquarters have been infected with Covid this week and four of them have been diagnosed as having been infected with the Delta strain.

However, naval sources said that their close contacts had been placed under quarantine at home without undergoing PCR tests. They also say that the Navy, which has faced a large number of problems due to Covid in the past, is still not carrying out Covid prevention procedures in a proper manner and that many officers are highly concerned about the current situation as a result.

Meanwhile more than 300 people who were quarantined at a central treatment center in Poonawa under the North Central Naval Command have also tested positive for Covid 19.
