ECONOMYNEXT – A hand grenade found by two workers near Sri Lanka’s Bellanwila temple was safely defused on Wednesday (13), police said, though no suspect has been arrested so far.
A similar incident occurred in September when police found a hand grenade inside the lavatory of a private hospital in Colombo. Two suspects were arrested in connection with that case.
The police media division told EconomyNext on Thursday (13) that Wednesday’s grenade was found in a concealed place by a dumpster near the Bellanwila temple. The temple is popular among Buddhists and draws large crowds even during epidemic times.
Investigations are ongoing, police said. (Colombo/Oct14/2021)
