Petroleum Resources Bill passed in Parliament with amendments


The Petroleum Resources Bill tabled in Parliament has been approved with amendments this (06) afternoon.

The bill was drafted to provide the necessary legal provisions for petroleum drilling. The new bill seeks to create the necessary legal framework and regulatory mechanism for the initiation of petroleum and gas operations in Sri Lanka using the reserves, in a move to attract investors in the sector.

Joining the debate, Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila stated that the regulation of mineral resources will be handed over to the Mineral Resources Authority by the subject Minister.
